Last couple of months have been like a bad taste apocalyptic novel from the 80’s.

But it’s happening.

The world’s most “powerful” man is Donald Trump.

Unless you’ve slept in a cave in the last two years, you’re probably aware that Trump has said things like:

• “I’m calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United Sates”.- December 2015.

13 months later, on his first month as a President of the United States, Trump signed an executive order temporarily blocking travel for immigrants from seven “terror prone” Muslim-majority countries: Iran, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen.

• “I’m talking about a wall that’s gotta be…serious.” “I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.”

Trump’s words and actions have generated protests all over the world, including in London. On 31^st January, thousands protested against the State visit of Trump in the UK as it will be an “embarrassment” for the Queen.

It’s a good thing that terrible things like Brexit and Trump have made people interested in politics again.

But it feels like things are going out of control.

For the past 12 months, the French were convinced that far-right’s Le Pen couldn’t win the French presidential elections, as people would vote for anyone standing against her in the 2^nd round.

Three months from the elections, their speech has changed.

Francois Fillon has been caught in a “PenelopeGate”, with damaging new claims that he paid his wife Penelope and children for allegedly non-existent jobs. The shadow of Dominique Strauss-Kahn scandal hangs around for Fillon. Of course, “PenelopeGate” is nowhere as humiliating but is as threatening for his presidency run.

If France sees the election of Marine Le Pen, it would be a true disaster for Europe and the world.

As a reminder, Le Pen is xenophobic, claims she’s not racist, but associates all acts of vandalism in France with immigrants.

Theresa May may look like the less evil of the three but she’s maybe the smartest.

It’s her after all who launched the controversial vans driving around the country carrying the immigrants deportation slogan: “Go home or face arrest”. It’s her who banned the post-study visa for international students. Students who accumulated debts to afford studying in an English university before being kicked out straight away just because they’re not plain white Europeans.

Trump, Le Pen, May: The heart is more or less the same, the xenophobia is there. The manner is different.

Please France do us a favour and save us from a disaster. Be the capital of reason, again.

Oh, also, by the way, Theresa, could you please stop selling arms to Turkey as a solution for Brexit?
